WASHINGTON, DC – A Maryland man has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to gun and drug possession following a dramatic police pursuit through Northwest Washington. Fulani Hasan Tahrike Herrod, 24, a convicted felon, entered his plea in U.S. District Court, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Herrod faces serious charges, including unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine. A sentencing date has been set for November 6, 2026, where he could receive up to 35 years in prison-15 years for the ammunition charge and 20 years for the drug charge.
The incident occurred on March 8, 2026, when a United States Park Police officer, during a high-visibility patrol, detected a stolen black BMW sedan with Maryland tags in the Columbia Road NW area. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over near 16th Street and Irving Street NW, Herrod, the sole occupant, fled, running multiple traffic lights and colliding with parked cars before eventually crashing the vehicle at 14th Street and Military Road NW.
After the crash, Herrod attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended with assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department. A search revealed a loaded “ghost gun” without a serial number in the vehicle, along with a backpack containing over 22 grams of crack cocaine and other drug paraphernalia. Herrod’s previous convictions in Montgomery County highlight a troubling pattern, including charges related to firearm possession and fleeing from law enforcement.
The investigation involved collaboration between the United States Park Police, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, Washington Division Office. This case underscores ongoing efforts to address gun violence and drug trafficking in the District of Columbia.
