(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser is inviting residents to participate in the 42nd Annual National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, August 4, an event designed to strengthen community ties and enhance public safety through local engagement. Organized by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), this national initiative will see family-friendly gatherings across all seven police districts, featuring food, games, and interactive activities that foster connections between community members and law enforcement.
This year’s NNO will showcase a variety of resources and demonstrations from both District and federal partners. Attendees can expect CPR demonstrations from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services and activities coordinated by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation. “Keeping DC safe takes all of us, working together,” said Mayor Bowser. “National Night Out is a chance for residents to meet the officers who serve their block, ask questions, and see firsthand the partnerships that keep our city thriving.”
Residents attending any of the seven district events will have the opportunity to learn about various programs aimed at promoting safer neighborhoods and can engage directly with District leadership regarding local concerns. The MPD will also encourage residents to register their security cameras with CameraConnect DC, a program that enhances the Real Time Crime Center and contributes to the ongoing reduction in violent crime citywide.
Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the MPD emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating, “National Night Out gives us a chance to connect with our neighbors in a meaningful way. When we come together, share ideas, and enjoy each other’s company, we strengthen the partnerships that keep our communities safe.” The festivities will kick off in the Fifth District at 5 p.m. at Alethia Tanner Park, located at 227 Harry Thomas Way NE. All events are free and open to the community.
