(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser announced today that registration for the Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) fall and school-year programming will open on August 11 and 12. Registration for aquatics programs will commence at noon on Tuesday, August 11, followed by all other programs on Wednesday, August 12, also starting at noon. Residents are encouraged to prepare in advance, as spaces are limited and registration will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The DPR will offer a wide range of programs tailored for various age groups and interests. Aquatics programs will feature options such as learn-to-swim classes, the DC Wave competitive swim team, and aqua fitness sessions. For youth aged 6-13, afterschool and out-of-school-time programs like Afternoon Access and Enrichment Zone will be available, along with specialized initiatives such as Young Ladies on the Rise and Young Men, Future Leaders. Teens can also participate in the Supreme Teens program.
In addition to youth programs, adults can engage in cultural arts classes, including piano, ballet, guitar, theater, and creative dance. The DPR will also host team sports and athletics, offering gymnastics, cheer, soccer, pickleball, tackle football, and the Senior Games. Fitness enthusiasts can select from various classes such as boot camp, Zumba, cardio, bike-spin, yoga, and senior fitness. For younger children aged 18 months to 4 years, Cooperative Play programs will provide opportunities for early socialization and learning.
To manage the expected high demand for registration, DPR will implement a virtual waiting room that will open at 11:50 a.m. on both registration days. Residents are advised to create an online account in advance through DPR’s registration system, available at dpr.dc.gov/DPRaccount, to streamline the process. Additionally, non-competitive registration for Senior Aquatic Bodywise and Senior YMCA programs will open at noon on Thursday, August 13.
DPR aims to make its programs accessible to all DC residents, offering reduced rates for qualifying individuals. Interested residents must complete an online application for reduced rates prior to registering for programs, which can be found at dpr.dc.gov/reducedrates.
