WASHINGTON, D.C. – A District couple, Katie Shameka Williams, 33, and Kenneth Darnell Smith Jr., 32, were arrested on August 18, 2026, following an indictment related to an alleged fentanyl and crack cocaine trafficking operation. The arrests were made by the FBI Washington Field Office Safe Streets Task Force at their residence in the Congress Heights neighborhood, located on the 1600 block of Savannah Street SE.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the charges, which include conspiracy to distribute over 40 grams of fentanyl, as well as crack cocaine. “These charges reflect this office’s aggressive commitment to dismantling violent drug networks, removing dangerous traffickers from our streets, and keeping our communities safe,” Pirro stated, underscoring the ongoing commitment to public safety in the nation’s capital.
According to court documents, the investigation into Williams and Smith began in March 2026, revealing at least nine instances of drug distribution from their apartment over several months. During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement discovered a significant cache of suspected controlled substances, including approximately 322 grams of fentanyl, various firearms, and nearly $2,000 in cash. Notably, three children were present in the apartment at the time of the search.
Both defendants are currently being held at the D.C. Correctional Facility and have made their initial appearances before a magistrate judge. This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia’s Violent Crime and Narcotics Trafficking unit, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department.
The arrests come amid ongoing efforts by federal and local authorities to combat drug-related crime in Washington, D.C., reflecting a broader initiative to enhance community safety and diminish the impact of drug trafficking in neighborhoods across the city.
