The incident occurred on March 29, 2026, when a confrontation between the suspect and an unidentified individual escalated into violence in the 1900 block of 8th Street. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm, with a bullet striking an innocent bystander who was waiting at a bus stop in the 700 block of Florida Avenue.

The victim was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, as the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before law enforcement arrived. This incident raised significant concerns among the community regarding public safety and the prevalence of gun violence in the area.

On October 6, 2026, following a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, 34-year-old Marcellus Williams of Oxon Hill, Maryland, was taken into custody. Williams has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) in connection with the incident.
