(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser is set to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) on Thursday, July 9, at 11 am. The event will take place at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, located at 3675 Ely Place SE. Joining the Mayor will be Department of Employment Services (DOES) Director Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes, community leaders, and youth from across the District.
This summer, over 15,000 young people are participating in MBSYEP and the Career Ready Early Scholars Program (CRESP), marking the highest combined enrollment in the past 12 years. The Mayor plans to engage with participants, emphasizing the District’s commitment to providing young residents with valuable work experience, career-ready skills, and income opportunities that prepare them for future success.
The Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy serves as a year-round hub for academic and athletic programming for youth in Wards 7 and 8. This summer, former Academy campers are returning as camp counselors and youth leaders, exemplifying the program’s commitment to fostering leadership and community support among the next generation.
