The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is actively investigating a homicide that occurred in Northeast Washington, D.C. late on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The incident took place around 11:10 p.m. in the 1400 block of Saratoga Avenue, where officers from the Fifth District responded to reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel from D.C. Fire and EMS were dispatched, but tragically, they pronounced the victim dead at the scene after observing no signs of life. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Darrius Coghill, a resident of Northeast, D.C.

In the wake of this tragic event, MPD is urging anyone with information to come forward. The MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this homicide.
