The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced an arrest in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Northeast Washington, D.C. on July 4, 2026. The incident, which occurred in the 1800 block of Irving Street, has led to the apprehension of a suspect charged with first-degree murder.
At approximately 5:54 a.m. on the morning of the shooting, Fifth District officers responded to reports of an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, they discovered a 55-year-old male, later identified as Adeyinka Aderemi of Northeast D.C., who was pronounced dead at the scene by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel. The victim was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Following an investigation, the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 53-year-old George Shaw, also of Northeast D.C., on July 21, 2026. Shaw was taken into custody pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant and is facing charges of First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated). The case has been assigned the incident number CCN: 26092379.
This arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the incident, which has raised concerns about public safety in the neighborhood. The MPD continues to urge anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward and assist in their inquiries.
