The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the establishment of a Youth Curfew Zone in the RFK Stadium area, aimed at addressing concerns about disorderly conduct among youth. This initiative is in accordance with the Juvenile Curfew Act of 1995, which was amended by the Youth Curfew Act of 2026, granting the Chief of Police the authority to designate specific areas where curfews for minors can be enforced.
The designated Youth Curfew Zone will be effective from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, 2026. The boundaries of the curfew zone are defined as follows: to the north, Benning Road from Oklahoma Avenue, NE to Kingman Lake; to the east, Kingman Lake including Heritage Island; to the south, the southern end of RFK Lot 8A; and to the west, a route from the southern tip of RFK Lot 8A to Independence Avenue, SE, then continuing to C Street, NE, and back to Oklahoma Avenue, NE.
During the curfew hours, individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from gathering in groups of nine or more in any public space, unless engaged in exempted activities, which can be found on the MPD’s official website. The department also reminds residents that a citywide curfew for all juveniles under 18 will be in effect during July and August, beginning at 12:01 a.m. and lasting until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
This curfew initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the MPD to enhance public safety and reduce incidents of youth-related disorder in the District. Residents are encouraged to remain informed about the curfew regulations and to promote safe environments for all youth in the community.
