The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the arrests of two suspects in connection with a homicide that took place on Minnesota Avenue in Northeast Washington, D.C. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, July 11, 2026, has drawn significant attention from local authorities as they continue to address public safety concerns in the area.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on the night of the shooting, officers from the Sixth District responded to reports of gunfire in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue, NE. Upon arrival, they found a victim, later identified as 28-year-old Aaron Brown from Laurel, Maryland, in an alleyway suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of D.C. Fire and EMS, who transported him to a local hospital, Brown succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Following a thorough investigation, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) arrested 25-year-old Abdoulie Jawneh of Southeast D.C. on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Premeditated) after being taken to the Homicide Branch. The following day, 23-year-old Daniel Foxworth of Suitland, Maryland, was also arrested by CARFTF and faces the same charges.
These arrests highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat violent crime in the District, particularly in neighborhoods that have experienced elevated levels of gun violence.
