The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the arrest of a suspect involved in an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Northwest Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on Friday, August 21, 2026, around 6:22 p.m. Officers from the Third District responded to a report of the robbery in the 1800 block of Columbia Road, NW.
According to police reports, the male suspect entered the pharmacy wearing a black ski mask and demanded prescription medications from employees. He then jumped over the counter, brandishing a firearm and making additional demands for drugs. After successfully obtaining stolen prescription medications, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.
Law enforcement quickly located the suspect after he crashed his vehicle in the 1500 block of North Capitol Street, NW. Following the crash, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by responding officers. A firearm and the stolen prescription drugs were recovered at the scene. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to bystanders or damage to other vehicles as a result of the crash.
Jamari Brighthaupt, a 25-year-old resident of Southeast D.C., has been charged with multiple offenses including robbery while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and resisting arrest, among others. The police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, and they urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
