The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is actively investigating a homicide that took place in Northeast Washington, D.C., on August 28, 2026. The shooting incident occurred at approximately 1:42 p.m. in the 6200 block of Dix Street, leaving one individual dead and three others injured.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the Sixth District found four adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was discovered unconscious and not breathing, while the other three were conscious and responsive. Emergency services, including DC Fire and EMS, promptly transported three of the victims to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The fourth victim was airlifted by helicopter due to the severity of his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Cortes Lilly, a resident of Northeast D.C. Despite all life-saving efforts made at the hospital, Lilly succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
MPD officials are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Residents are advised to call (202) 727-9099 or send a text tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The police department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides in the District of Columbia.
