The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is actively investigating a homicide that took place early Saturday morning in Northeast Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on July 4, 2026, at approximately 5:54 a.m. in the 1800 block of Irving Street, Southeast.

Officers from the Fifth District responded to reports of an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male who was unresponsive and not breathing. Medical personnel from D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived shortly after and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Adeyinka Aderemi, a resident of Northeast D.C. His body has since been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The MPD is urging anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward. To encourage community cooperation, the MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides in the District.
