The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is currently investigating a homicide that took place in the Rosedale neighborhood of Northeast Washington, DC. This tragic incident occurred on Saturday, July 11, 2026, when officers responded to reports of a man down in the 1600 block of Rosedale Street at approximately 8:24 p.m.

Upon arrival, Fifth District officers discovered a juvenile male on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel from DC Fire and EMS responded promptly but, unfortunately, pronounced the victim dead at the scene, as there were no signs consistent with life. The victim has been identified as 13-year-old Ahmad Mims, a resident of Northeast DC.

According to detectives, the shooting incident originated from within a home located on Rosedale Street. The investigation remains ongoing, and MPD is urging anyone with information related to this case to contact them directly. As part of their efforts to solve this case, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides in the District.
