Three D.C. Men Found Guilty of Murder for November 2021 Shooting

Demonte Gibson, 28, Tre’Quan Nelson, 26, and Asani Forte, 29, were found guilty in D.C. Superior Court for their roles in a shooting that took place on November 3, 2021, which resulted in the death of 34-year-old Delonte King and injuries to several other individuals. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced the verdicts, which come after a retrial following a previous hung jury in April 2025.

Gibson was convicted of multiple charges, including first-degree murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, malicious destruction of property, and conspiracy. Both Nelson and Forte were found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder while armed. Sentencing for Gibson has been scheduled for January 8, 2027.

The incident occurred around 2:02 p.m. on November 3, 2021, when members of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 2800 block of 14th Street, NW. Upon their arrival, they discovered King unconscious with gunshot wounds, while another victim, 64-year-old Allen Hillyer, was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the arm. Additional victims reported property damage due to stray bullets.

Evidence presented during the trial included surveillance footage showing the three defendants together near the shooting site, as well as firearms and ammunition found in Gibson’s apartment that matched shell casings from the crime scene. The police did not receive an alert from ShotSpotter regarding the shooting, but an analysis later indicated approximately 25 rounds were fired in the area.

All three men were arrested in 2023, with Gibson taken into custody on February 27, Nelson on March 30, and Forte on April 25. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department, and Assistant United States Attorney Erin DeRiso is handling the prosecution.
