The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced significant public safety achievements resulting from a summer crackdown targeting violent crime and narcotics trafficking across the District. This initiative involved a collaborative effort among federal prosecutors, the Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, ATF, and other agencies, focusing on individuals contributing to violence and drug distribution in local neighborhoods.
According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, the enforcement operations yielded impressive results. Law enforcement officials seized 533 illegal firearms and confiscated large quantities of narcotics, including over 64 kilograms of methamphetamine, nearly 47 kilograms of cocaine, and significant amounts of fentanyl and crack cocaine. The crackdown led to more than 60 federal indictments, with 30 individuals charged in serious narcotics offenses and another 30 in cases involving felons in possession of firearms. Additionally, 28 gang members were arrested as part of the operation.
The summer initiative also resulted in the dismantling of multiple drug trafficking operations. Notably, one investigation uncovered an 11-defendant conspiracy linked to methamphetamine trafficking with international connections to South Korea, while another targeted a 14-defendant crack cocaine distribution ring operating near Hendley Elementary School. Authorities seized 28 firearms and a substantial amount of narcotics during these operations. In a separate case, law enforcement arrested the operator of Forest Floor LLC for MDMA trafficking near Catholic University, leading to the seizure of over $250,000 in cash and substantial quantities of other illegal drugs.
Furthermore, the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported advancements from its International Homeland Security Task Force, resulting in 19 indictments, including three Mexican nationals, and 26 arrests. Agents confiscated over 2,300 kilograms of cocaine and $1.6 million in drug proceeds linked to transnational trafficking routes.
This summer’s law enforcement efforts concluded with 11 convictions in federal jury trials, including serious charges related to murder conspiracies and armed robberies. These outcomes reflect a concerted approach to tackling crime and enhancing public safety in the District, as outlined by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
