The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the arrest of a 12-year-old juvenile male in connection with the homicide of 13-year-old Ahmad Mims in Northeast Washington, DC. The tragic incident occurred on July 11, 2026, in the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, where officers found Mims suffering from a gunshot wound.
At approximately 8:24 p.m. on that Saturday evening, Fifth District officers responded to reports of a man down. Upon arrival, they discovered the juvenile victim on the sidewalk. Despite the immediate response from DC Fire and EMS, Mims was pronounced dead at the scene, with no signs of life evident upon their arrival.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting took place inside a home located on the same block. The MPD has confirmed that the victim, Ahmad Mims, was a resident of Northeast DC.
On August 19, 2026, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force executed a pre-petition custody order from DC Superior Court, leading to the arrest of the 12-year-old suspect.
