The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is currently investigating a homicide that took place in the Southwest quadrant of Washington, DC. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 9:38 p.m., when a First District officer was alerted to a man down in the 100 block of M Street, Southwest.

Upon arrival, the officer discovered an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the median. Emergency services from DC Fire and EMS promptly transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. However, despite all lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Joshua Primus, a resident of Southwest DC. The MPD’s investigation has determined that the shooting originated in the 1300 block of Canal Street, Southwest.

This tragic event adds to concerns about public safety in the area as the community seeks answers and justice for Joshua Primus. The investigation remains ongoing, and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to law enforcement.
