The District of Columbia Judicial Nomination Commission has announced that there are currently seventeen applicants vying for pending judicial vacancies on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. These vacancies arise from the expiration of the term of the Honorable John F. McCabe, Jr., and the resignation of the Honorable James A. Crowell, IV. Following its review, the Commission will forward the names of three candidates for each vacancy to the President of the United States for consideration and potential appointment.
The list of applicants includes a diverse range of legal professionals, such as Magdalena A. Acevedo, Esq., Andrew L. Ain, Esq., and Judge Pavan S. Krishnamurthy, among others. The Commission invites comments from the legal community and the public regarding these candidates’ qualifications, emphasizing the importance of community input in the selection process.
Residents are encouraged to provide feedback by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Comments can be submitted through various means, including a web-based survey, letters sent to the Commission’s office, or via email. The Commission will evaluate applicants based on eight criteria, which include judicial temperament, professional skills, ethics, commitment to diversity, leadership and communication skills, efficiency and organizational skills, writing skills, and community service.
