Indictment Charges District Resident in Selling Dose of Fentanyl that Killed a 20-Year-Old Virginia Man

Anthony Winslow, 44, a resident of the District, has been indicted for allegedly selling a fatal dose of fentanyl to 20-year-old Jack Hargreaves from Virginia. The indictment, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, charges Winslow with one count of unlawful distribution of fentanyl resulting in death or serious bodily injury. Winslow was arrested near his residence on the day prior to the announcement.

According to the government’s detention memo, Hargreaves died on May 20, 2024, from a suspected drug overdose. Early that morning, Winslow reportedly drove Hargreaves’ Infiniti to a fire station located at 50 49th Street NE, where Hargreaves was subsequently pronounced dead.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro expressed the profound impact of Hargreaves’ death, stating, “Jack Hargreaves was just 20 years old. His parents are now living every family’s worst nightmare.” Pirro emphasized the ongoing fentanyl crisis in the region, noting that the D.C. Safe Task Force has seized over 6.8 kilograms of fentanyl-laced drugs, although the threat remains significant.

The investigation was highlighted by Special Agent in Charge Cindy Marx of the DEA Washington Division, who described the loss of Hargreaves as a tragic reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal drugs. Marx reiterated the DEA’s commitment to holding accountable those responsible for distributing dangerous substances.

Assistant Chief of Police Ramey Kyle of the Metropolitan Police Department also condemned the trafficking of fentanyl and other illicit drugs, stressing the importance of collaboration among law enforcement agencies to protect the community and seek justice for victims.
