Two men, Travis Foster, 25, and Reginald Monroe, 23, both previously convicted felons from the District of Columbia, have been sentenced for illegal possession of firearms following an investigation sparked by their social media activities. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced the sentencing, highlighting the dangers posed by the defendants’ actions.
Foster pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful possession with intent to distribute marijuana. He received a 57-month prison term, along with three years of supervised release. Monroe also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and unlawful possession of a machine gun, resulting in a 46-month prison sentence and three years of supervised release.
The investigation began in 2023 when law enforcement started monitoring social media platforms after observing Foster and his associates flaunting firearms in high-resolution music videos and online posts. These videos included weapons equipped with extended magazines, which posed a significant risk to public safety. On October 19, officers followed Foster and Monroe from a dinner gathering to a nightclub, ultimately leading them to a parking garage where multiple firearms and suspected fentanyl pills were recovered from vehicles connected to the defendants.
Evidence presented in court included Instagram messages where Foster referred to the seized firearms as his own and indicated intentions to replace them. Further investigations at Foster’s residence yielded additional firearms, marijuana, and a money counter, linking him to distribution-level quantities of drugs. Monroe’s firearm possession was noted as part of a broader pattern of armed criminal conduct, with prior convictions for armed robbery.
