The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the arrest of a suspect linked to a series of tire slashings that occurred in Northwest DC. Between July 6 and July 8, 2026, a total of 10 vehicles were targeted in several neighborhoods, causing significant damage to residents’ property.
The incidents took place in various locations throughout the Second District. On July 6, several vehicles were vandalized in the 1000 block of Wisconsin Avenue, the 3200 block of Cherry Hill Lane, and the 3300 block of Cady’s Alley. The following day, another vehicle was damaged in the 1700 block of 35th Street, with additional damage reported again in the 1000 block of Wisconsin Avenue on July 8.
The investigation took a decisive turn on July 9 when National Guard service members, who were familiar with the incidents, spotted the suspect and promptly alerted officers from the Second District. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Marcel Mathew Brannum, who has no fixed address, was taken into custody. He has been charged with five counts of felony Destruction of Property.
The MPD expressed gratitude to the National Guard members for their assistance in locating the suspect, highlighting the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety. As investigations continue, authorities are encouraging residents to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
