The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the establishment of two Youth Curfew Zones in Washington, DC, aimed at addressing concerns about disorderly conduct among youth in specific areas. This initiative follows Mayor’s Order 2026-086, which grants the Chief of Police the authority to designate these zones when a group of at least nine youth is identified as being at risk for engaging in disruptive activities.

The two designated zones are the Brightwood/Emery Heights Zone and the Banneker Rec Center/U Street Zone. The Brightwood/Emery Heights Zone is bounded by Quackenbos Street, NW to the north, 8th Street, NW to the east, Longfellow Street, NW to the south, and 13th Street, NW to the west. Meanwhile, the Banneker Rec Center/U Street Zone is defined by Euclid Street, NW to the north, Georgia Avenue, NW to the east, 11th Street, NW to the west, and T Street, NW to the south.

These curfew zones will be enforced from 8:00 p.m. to 12:01 a.m. from Friday, August 21, through Sunday, August 23, 2026. Within these designated areas, individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from gathering in groups of nine or more in any public place unless they are participating in exempted activities, which can be found on the MPD’s website.

In addition to the newly established curfew zones, the MPD reminds residents that a citywide curfew for all youth under 18 is already in effect, commencing nightly at 12:01 a.m. and lasting until 6:00 a.m. the following morning. This ongoing curfew is part of the city’s broader efforts to ensure public safety and reduce youth-related disturbances.

For more information about the specific boundaries of the Youth Curfew Zones and the exempted activities, residents can visit the MPD’s designated webpage. As the city continues to address youth safety, community engagement and awareness will be crucial in fostering a secure environment for all residents.
