DC Health Launches Rodent Control Dashboard to Strengthen Citywide Prevention and Response Effort

(WASHINGTON, DC) – DC Health has unveiled a new Rodent Control Dashboard aimed at enhancing the District’s approach to managing rodent populations. This centralized public tool offers residents and businesses insight into ongoing rodent control initiatives, including service requests, abatement activities, and effective prevention strategies. The launch of the dashboard underscores DC Health’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and proactive public health measures.

“Successful rodent control is a shared responsibility,” stated DC Health Director Dr. Ayanna Bennett. According to Dr. Bennett, the dashboard’s data is sourced from reports by residents, businesses, and the city’s 311 service, allowing officials to pinpoint rodent hotspots and deploy resources effectively. “When communities report concerns and work alongside DC Health, we can make more informed decisions and achieve better outcomes in reducing rodent activity throughout the District,” she added.

The Rodent and Vector Control Division of DC Health operates year-round to mitigate rodent populations across all eight wards of the District. Their efforts include inspections, surveys, treatment of burrows, and community outreach. Since the beginning of 2026, the program has addressed over 5,000 complaints, achieving a resolution rate of 99.9%. The team has identified and treated nearly 10,000 burrows, with a significant focus on community involvement in the process.

To further support rodent control efforts, residents are encouraged to take preventive measures. Simple actions such as securing trash in tight-fitting containers, clearing outdoor clutter, promptly cleaning up pet waste, and reporting rodent sightings to 311 can significantly reduce rodent activity in neighborhoods across Washington, DC.

The Rodent Control Dashboard is accessible online through the Rodent and Vector Control Division webpage at dchealth.dc.gov/rodent-control-dashboard.
