Felon Sentenced to 50 Months After Surge Task Force Finds Stolen Gun, Cocaine Base During Traffic Stop

Kurono Scutchings, a 29-year-old resident of the District of Columbia with a prior felony conviction, has been sentenced to 50 months in prison for unlawful possession of a stolen firearm and cocaine base, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing, emphasizing the seriousness of illegal firearms possession and drug trafficking.

Scutchings, also known as “Kuron Scutchings,” pleaded guilty to the charges on May 6. In addition to the prison term, they will serve three years of supervised release following their incarceration. The case stems from an incident on August 24, 2025, when officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Special Missions Unit, along with federal agents from the Federal Law Enforcement Surge Task Force, conducted a traffic stop in Southeast D.C.

During the stop, officers observed Scutchings in a parked vehicle and approached them. When questioned about a clear plastic bag in their possession, Scutchings initially claimed it contained marijuana but later surrendered the bag, which was found to hold 11.46 grams of cocaine base. A subsequent search revealed a loaded FN Five-Seven semi-automatic pistol, reported stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland, concealed in Scutchings’ clothing. Officers also discovered additional narcotics, including methamphetamine and fentanyl, in the vehicle.

Scutchings has a criminal history that includes a 2020 conviction for robbery, resulting in a 30-month prison sentence. Due to their status as a felon, they were prohibited from possessing any firearms. The investigation was supported by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the prosecution was part of the Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful initiative, aimed at addressing gun violence and enforcing federal firearms laws.
