Mayor Muriel Bowser will join students from Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter School on October 26, 2026, for a community rally in celebration of DC College Application and Exploration Month. The event, taking place at Thurgood Marshall Academy in Ward 8, will also feature leaders from the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE).
DC College Application and Exploration Month aims to generate enthusiasm around the college application process, providing support for graduating seniors to complete their applications during school hours. Schools are also encouraged to host at least one college and career exploration event during the fall semester.
The rally will highlight Thurgood Marshall Academy’s focus on college readiness, particularly its law-themed curriculum that emphasizes civic engagement. Since its inception in 2005, the academy has celebrated a 100% college acceptance rate among its graduates who applied, illustrating its commitment to preparing students for higher education and active participation in civic life.
OSSE will be on hand to provide information about various resources available to students and families, including the DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) and the Mayor’s Scholars Undergraduate Program, both designed to help cover tuition costs. Additionally, high school students can access Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and Advanced Technical Centers (ATCs) to earn college credit and industry certifications before graduation.
The rally is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and will be accessible via live stream on the Office of the Mayor’s official website and various social media platforms. Members of the press wishing to attend are encouraged to RSVP in advance.
