The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred in Northeast Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Officers from the Sixth District responded to reports of an unconscious person in an apartment located on the 100 block of 45th Street at approximately 7:07 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male who was unconscious and not breathing, with visible trauma to their body. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene; however, despite extensive lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the location.
The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Rodney Bennett, a resident of Northeast D.C. The police department has confirmed that this investigation remains active and ongoing as they seek to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at (202) 727-9099 or to submit tips via the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for this homicide.
