The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place in Southeast on October 6, 2026. Officers from the Sixth District responded to a report of a shooting in the 2700 block of Minnesota Avenue at approximately 11:36 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a juvenile male who was unconscious and not breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical services transported the victim to a local hospital, but despite all lifesaving efforts, the juvenile was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Joshua Carter, a resident of Southeast, D.C.

The police are urging anyone with information about this incident to contact them at (202) 727-9099 or to send a text to the Department’s Text Tip Line at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for homicides in the District of Columbia.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking the community for any assistance that could help solve this tragic case.
