Previously Convicted Killer Gets 15 Years for March 2025 Shooting, November 2025 Possession of ‘Ghost Gun’

Abdul Fields, a 30-year-old resident with a prior felony conviction, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for a street shooting in March 2025 and for possessing a ghost gun in November 2025, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Fields was on supervised release due to a previous manslaughter conviction at the time of his offenses.

Fields pleaded guilty to charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, violations of D.C. Code, along with unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, a federal offense. In addition to the prison term, a judge ordered Fields to serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.

Details from court documents reveal that Fields committed two illegal firearms offenses within a six-month period. On March 24, 2025, he fired a pistol at a passing vehicle at a busy intersection, an act captured by both ShotSpotter technology and CCTV footage. Following the shooting, police found a shell casing linked to a ghost gun discovered at Fields’ residence during a search warrant execution.

On November 19, 2025, Fields was arrested by Metropolitan Police Department officers while outside the Tyler House Apartments, where he lived under GPS monitoring. During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded ghost gun tucked into his waistband. The weapon was identified as untraceable and lacked a serial number. Fields reportedly struggled with officers during the arrest and made threatening remarks about his firearms possession.

This incident marks at least Fields’ third and fourth offenses related to firearms since 2013, which include a previous armed robbery and a manslaughter conviction. His repeated violations of supervised release and continued possession of illegal firearms have raised concerns regarding public safety.
