The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced an arrest in connection with a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in Northeast Washington, DC. The incident took place on July 27, 2026, at approximately 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Bladensburg Road and South Dakota Avenue.
According to the MPD, officers from the Fifth District responded to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and found an adult female suffering from serious injuries in a nearby park. Despite the efforts of DC Fire and EMS, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 45-year-old Shana Battle of Laurel, Maryland.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an Audi Q7 was traveling southbound on South Dakota Avenue when it veered into a park area between Franklin Street and Bladensburg Road, striking Battle. The driver fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Following an extensive investigation, the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 46-year-old Marvin Bonilla Martinez, who has no fixed address, on October 7, 2026. Martinez has been charged with Second Degree Murder.
