The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking assistance from the community in identifying a suspect involved in a shooting incident in Northeast. The event occurred on Thursday, September 24, 2026, around 5:35 p.m. when the suspect allegedly stole items from a store located in the 1500 block of New York Avenue, Northeast.
According to the police, as the suspect attempted to leave the store, he was confronted by two employees, one of whom was an armed special police officer. The suspect reportedly assaulted the employees, utilized pepper spray, and managed to gain control of the officer’s firearm. In the ensuing struggle, he fired a shot that struck an uninvolved bystander. Both the bystander and the special police officer were subsequently transported to local hospitals for medical treatment, while the second employee was not injured.
The incident was captured on surveillance cameras, and authorities have released an image of the suspect, which is now being circulated to aid in his identification. The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone who may recognize the suspect or has any information related to the incident to contact them.
