WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Northeast D.C. man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of his roommate on July 4, 2026. George Bernard Shaw, 53, was taken into custody following the fatal incident involving 31-year-old Adeyinka Aderemi, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Shaw made his initial court appearance today before Superior Court Magistrate Judge Renee Raymond. During the hearing, Judge Raymond determined there was probable cause to believe that Shaw committed first-degree murder while armed, resulting in an order for him to be held without bond as he awaits trial.
According to court documents, Shaw and Aderemi had been living together for several months in an apartment located on the 1800 block of Irving Street, NE. Prior to the homicide, Shaw had reportedly made threats against Aderemi. On the morning of the incident, Shaw allegedly approached Aderemi in a parking lot outside their apartment and shot him once in the back of the head. Aderemi was pronounced dead at the scene by responding law enforcement.
Following the shooting, authorities executed a search warrant at Shaw’s apartment, where they recovered a revolver from his bedroom. The case is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rashmika Nedungadi.
Shaw is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Raymond on August 31, 2026. It is important to note that these charges are merely allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
