The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) announced the arrest of a suspect involved in a shooting incident that occurred in Southeast Washington, D.C. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Antwan Gales, is facing charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) following an investigation into the alarming event.

The incident took place on Tuesday, October 10, 2025, at approximately 3:19 a.m., when the victim was found sleeping in the hallway of an apartment building located in the 400 block of Ridge Road, Southeast. According to MPD, Gales exited his apartment, brandished a firearm, and demanded that the victim vacate the premises. As the victim attempted to flee, Gales discharged his weapon multiple times; fortunately, the victim was not injured during the encounter.

Following the incident, MPD detectives conducted a thorough investigation which culminated in the identification of Gales as the suspect. On Thursday, August 13, 2026, he was apprehended in connection with the shooting, thanks to a warrant issued by the D.C. Superior Court.

This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts of the MPD to address public safety concerns in the District, particularly in neighborhoods like Southeast where gun violence continues to be a pressing issue.
