The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is currently investigating the tragic homicide of a two-month-old infant in Southeast Washington, D.C. The incident, which has drawn significant concern from the community, occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in the 800 block of New Jersey Avenue, SE.

At approximately 9:47 p.m., officers from the First District responded to reports of an unconscious infant at a nearby apartment. Upon their arrival, they found the unresponsive female infant, later identified as Khamyah Honesty, suffering from blunt force injuries. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported the infant to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

On August 18, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that Khamyah’s cause of death was blunt force trauma, classifying the manner of death as homicide. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit of MPD’s Homicide Branch have since taken the lead on the investigation, which is being conducted in coordination with the United States Attorney’s Office.

Authorities have indicated that the incident may have domestic overtones, prompting a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking case.
