The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has announced the establishment of a Youth Curfew Zone in the Banneker Recreation Center and U Street Corridor. This initiative aims to enhance public safety by restricting the presence of unaccompanied minors in designated areas during specific hours, in accordance with the Juvenile Curfew Act of 1995, as amended by the Youth Curfew Act of 2026.
The Youth Curfew Zone will take effect from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, and will remain in place until 11:00 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 2026. Under this regulation, individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from gathering in groups of nine or more in any public space or on the premises of any establishment unless they are engaged in certain exempt activities. The boundaries of the Youth Curfew Zone are defined as follows: to the north, Euclid Street NW from Georgia Avenue NW to 11th Street NW; to the east, Georgia Avenue NW continuing on 7th Street NW from Euclid Street NW to T Street NW; to the west, 11th Street NW from Euclid Street NW to V Street NW, then extending from V Street NW to 15th Street NW; and to the south, T Street NW from 7th Street NW to 15th Street NW.
In addition to the designated Youth Curfew Zone, the MPD reminds residents that a citywide curfew is enforced for all youth under the age of 18 from September through June. During this period, curfew hours are set from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
