The Metropolitan Police Department has announced an arrest in connection with the tragic homicide of a two-month-old infant in Southeast Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on August 16, 2026, when officers responded to a report of an unconscious infant at an apartment on New Jersey Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the unresponsive child, who had suffered blunt force injuries. Despite the efforts of D.C. Fire and EMS, the infant was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
On August 18, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma and classified the manner of death as homicide. The deceased infant has been identified as Khamyah Honesty, a resident of Southeast D.C.
Following an extensive investigation, 40-year-old Demetrius Beatty was arrested on September 16. Beatty, who has no fixed address, was taken into custody by members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and is facing charges of First-Degree Felony Murder and First-Degree Cruelty to Children. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit of the MPD’s Homicide Branch are continuing to investigate Khamyah’s death in collaboration with the United States Attorney’s Office.
Authorities have indicated that the incident has domestic overtones, prompting further scrutiny into the circumstances surrounding the case. The Metropolitan Police Department is urging anyone with additional information to come forward as the investigation progresses.
