(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser is set to celebrate the grand opening of the new DC Infrastructure Academy (DCIA) on Thursday, October 1, at 11 am. The ceremony will take place at the historic former Spingarn High School campus in Ward 5. The new facility will serve as the central hub for the DCIA, which offers training programs in transportation, energy, and automotive sectors.
This inauguration marks the completion of a $73 million renovation project initiated by the Office of the Mayor of Washington, DC. According to the administration, the revamped facility aims to enhance opportunities for residents by connecting them with careers in high-demand fields. The expansion will allow for increased programming in areas such as auto mechanics and construction, further supporting workforce development in the district.
Local officials expected to attend the event include Councilmember Zachary Parker, Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes, Director of the Department of Employment Services, and Delano Hunter, Director of the DC Department of General Services. Representatives from the Spingarn Alumni Coalition and notable graduates of the DCIA will also be present to mark the occasion.
The grand opening will be accessible to the public, with live coverage provided by the DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment. Residents interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP in advance. The facility is located at 2500 Benning Road NE, with nearby bus routes including C57 and D20.
