WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two local men, Deondre Rogers and Hanif Brown, both aged 20, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to multiple charges related to a series of violent crimes in the District earlier this year. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced that the charges include armed carjacking, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, among others.
The plea agreement resolves an extensive 87-count indictment against Rogers and Brown, both of whom were 17 years old at the time of the offenses. They are scheduled to be sentenced on September 25, 2026, before Superior Court Judge Jason Park. The government is seeking a 17-year prison sentence for each defendant in connection with the charges.
The crime spree began on April 7, 2023, when the duo rear-ended a white Jeep inside the Third Street Tunnel while driving a stolen Mercedes sedan. They threatened the occupants at gunpoint, forcing them to exit their vehicle before fleeing in the stolen Jeep. Just over a week later, on April 16, Rogers and Brown struck again in the 1600 block of 5th Street NW, robbing another victim at gunpoint as he walked with a friend, before driving away in both the victim’s vehicle and their own.
The pair’s crime wave culminated on May 4, 2023, when they robbed two individuals at gunpoint in the 1400 block of U Street NW. During this incident, they made off with valuable items including a $40,000 Audemars watch and a $7,000 Rolex. In a notable twist, Rogers later posted videos on social media wearing the stolen watches, which contributed to the investigation led by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Both Rogers and Brown’s actions have raised concerns about youth crime in the District, emphasizing the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating such offenses in neighborhoods across Washington. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Travis Wolf, Valerie Tsesarenko, and Brian Hanley, reflecting a significant effort to address public safety in the city.
