Snow Much Fun! DPW Invites DC Residents to Name Eight Snowplows

The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) is inviting residents to participate in a creative contest aimed at naming eight of the city’s snowplows, with each plow representing one of the District’s eight wards. The initiative, dubbed “Name That Plow,” encourages residents to think outside the box and come up with names that reflect local humor, history, or neighborhood pride.

DPW Interim Director Chris Rodriguez expressed enthusiasm for the contest, noting that it highlights the department’s connection to the community. “We know DC residents have a great sense of humor and plenty of hometown pride, so we’re expecting some great submissions,” Rodriguez said. The contest follows the completion of the District Snow Team’s Snow Mobilization Week, an annual event that prepares personnel and equipment for winter weather conditions.

Residents can submit their name suggestions through a dedicated online portal until November 10. DPW encourages participants to consider names that are clever and funny, celebrate DC’s rich culture and history, or pay tribute to the unique aspects of their neighborhoods. Rodriguez added, “Snow removal is serious business, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun along the way.”

The selected names will be revealed on December 15, as part of DPW’s ongoing efforts to engage the community in essential services. For more information on DPW’s winter weather operations and snow preparedness, residents can visit the department’s official website.
